Webinar Wednesdays 2021 Series

Written by Léargas | Mar 3, 2021 1:37:22 PM

After the success of Webinar Wednesdays in 2020, we will hold a new series of nine weekly webinars to support beneficiaries of and newcomers to European programmes! This series of Webinar Wednesdays will provide learning and training opportunities for people involved in Education and Training, Youth, and Civic Society in Ireland. It will explore the key priorities and values that underpin European Programmes.

We will continue to support participants to adapt to the current COVID-19 crisis through peer-to-peer learning and expert discussions. Each week we will discuss a different theme, as well as share updates on the new Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes for 2021-2027.

The collaboration encouraged and facilitated by the Webinar Wednesday sessions proved particularly beneficial for Lisa Downes, a Youth Worker at St. Andrews Resource Centre on Dublin's Pearse St.

Describing her experience of the 2020 sessions for a recent Léargas blog post, she said: "What it was showing was that we all had the same barriers, all the same hurdles, but at the same time, there was a lot of inspiration. People were saying, you know, it’s still achievable... It gave you the confidence to continue."

Feelings of isolation have become common for many of us over the last 11 months, but Lisa found that Webinar Wednesdays helped counteract this for her. "It was a nice opportunity to go beyond the walls, not just of Pearse Street, but beyond the walls of Dublin. It was really nice to reconnect with people and engage with people."

You can see recordings under each event below, and from the Autumn Series here and the previous Spring Series here.

Webinar One: Giving Voice to Primary Pupils' Plurilingual Repertoire
24 March 2021, 10:30-11:30am

Sector: All sectors
Objectives:
Let all your primary students’ languages be seen and heard in school! EAL pupils are not the only ones who would benefit from having more opportunities to use and develop their home language(s) at school. By fostering an interest and curiosity in learning further languages, a plurilingual approach to language education benefits all learners and develops all pupils’ intercultural communication. Join us to hear from Dr. Déirdre Kirwan, who together with Professor David Little co-authored the Primary Intercultural Guidelines. The guidelines are based on the work led by Déirdre when principal of Scoil Bhríde (Cailíní) in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
