Creeslough National School, a small Church of Ireland School and Scoil Náisiúnta Glasáin, an Irish-medium school, have completed another successful year as part of the PEACEPLUS ASPIRE shared education programme, culminating in a community celebration at the local community centre. Both pupils and staff reflect the aims of PEACEPLUS ASPIRE, which seeks to create a society where differences are celebrated. Read on to learn more about the highlights of their recent event!

The event brought together pupils, parents, staff and community leaders to mark the end of a year-long programme focused on wellbeing and community connection. Highlights of the afternoon included pupils performing poetry in Irish, English and Ukrainian, a reflection of the diverse backgrounds represented across both schools, and the unveiling of a mosaic artwork created in collaboration with a local artist. The piece, which celebrates the individuality and diversity of the school communities, will be permanently displayed in the local Day Centre.

The partnership between these two schools is distinctive, a Church of Ireland school and an Irish-medium school, serving a community that includes families from Ireland, Ukraine, the Arabic-speaking world and beyond. Throughout the year, teachers Amanda and Lorna have worked together to deliver a shared programme rooted in the wellbeing curriculum and focused on building genuine community connections for all pupils and their families.

PEACEPLUS ASPIRE (Advancing Shared Partnerships through Inclusive Relationships in Education) is a collaboration between Léargas, the Education Authority (lead partner), Early Years- the organisation for young children, National Childhood Network (NCN) and the Fermanagh Trust. The project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). It aims to provide direct and sustained contact between children and young people from all backgrounds.
